Brett Favre? Really?

Just when you thought that maybe, just maybe Brett Favre would stay true to his word and stay retired, he goes ahead and signs a reported $10-12 million contract with the Minnesota Vikings. In fact, it turns out Favre was never really planning on staying retired. According to a report yesterday by Jay Glazer of FoxSports.com, many Vikings players "knew" Favre would be in a Vikings uniform. One anonymous Vikings player stated, "I'm telling you it's already done." Wow. I guess we just got fooled (again) by Brett Favre. But in this article, I will try to show you how Favre's appearance will NOT make the Vikings any better than they were before.

As a QB turning 40 during the course of this season, Favre is simply old. Very few quarterbacks can be effective at 40 years old and while Favre is tough, every body begins to wear down as it gets older. Additionally...

He was operated on last season. His bicep injury put him under the knife, and he still has his torn rotator cuff. None of these things bode well for someone Favre's age. Sure, he's accomplished a lot through the course of his career, but he's 40 years old. He can't go on forever. A perfect analogy to Favre is John Smoltz, who's finally starting to give after seeming ageless for so many years.

Look at the way that Favre looked during the second half of 2008 with the Jets. So many picks, his injuries, and everything led the team to implosion. He threw 9 interceptions during the last five games of the season. While he'll obviously play over Tarvaris Jackson in Minnesota, I have to say that Jackson's last four games consisted of just one interception.

...which brings me to my next point: team chemistry. Jackson seemed to perform better at the end of the year because he developed a rapport with his receiving core, a chemistry that comes only from playing with them. A QB's productivity is largely based on his chemistry with his receivers, and that can't be stressed enough. This year, Favre simply blew off training camp and the two-a-days and joined the team in the middle of the preseason, and I don't think he's going to get enough time to build any sort of chemistry with his receivers. That means that, most likely, his timing will be off, more interceptions, and an inconsistent passing game. The only saving grace for Favre is that he won't be expected to throw the ball as much, considering he's got superstar Adrian Peterson at running back. In fact, people have said that Favre's presence will help Peterson because opposing defenses won't continuously stack the box, but I don't think his presence means anything. As I said before, his arm strength isn't what it used to be, and he's coming off major surgery. He's no Chad Pennington, but I don't think defenses are that afraid of him stretching the field.

And then looking at the rest of the team, Favre knows none of them either. He's coming right into a team in late August, and hasn't participated in one practice, didn't go to training camp, and has done nothing to get to know his teammates. He was the same way with the Jets, and look at how that worked out.

I understand where the Vikings are coming from. They probably won't contend without Favre. This will increase ratings, sell more tickets, and might give them a shot to go big this year, but I don't think he's the future in Minnesota and you have to wonder what they'll do after him.

He's old. He's worn down. He thinks he's better than the rest of his team. He'll be rusty. There's just a lot working against him, despite his incredible talent. I'm not sure I agree with this move.

The 2009 NFL season is almost here! It's a matter of time before it starts, and the best way to prepare is by playing some NFL pickem at RootZoo Sports. Additionally, the NFL forum is booming, and you may want to check it out.

I am interested in opening a small business in the Las Vegas area. Preferably on the strip and inside of a casino. It would be a small booth area that should only take up about a 5ft x 10ft space on the floor.
I was curious if anyone on here is familiar with any of the details regarding renting space in the casinos there (rent cost, etc.). Any information that you can provide is appreciated.

I'm thinking of going to a dealer's school here in Las Vegas. Blackjack for sure is a go; poker has too many variants and I can do that later. So I want to pick up a second game, either craps or roulette. Which one would be better to learn in order to be viable in the job market?

I'm trying to take the jump from a career in the corporate world to professional poker player? Has anybody done it already? Any good paths to follow? I'm placing in local games/tournaments but don't know the first thing about going national/international. Help!

Does An Online Casino Like This Exist?

I was wondering if anybody knew of any online casinos that allow U.S. players, currently have a no deposit promotion going on, and allow you to use that bonus money for roulette or blackjack.
